Butter stocks rose in February

U.S. butter stocks in cold storage increased last month while other cheeses hit a monthly record.

In USDA’s latest Cold Storage report, cheese stocks totaled more than 1.4 billion pounds, down slightly on the month and year.

Other types of cheese, like mozzarella and parmesan, posted a record high for the month, with more than half of the stocks in the East North Central region which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Butter inventories were up 12 percent from last month and from a year ago at nearly 295 million pounds.
