Dave Pfeifle will once more take on the role of Sioux Falls' city attorney, following the city council's approval of his appointment by Mayor Paul TenHaken.

Pfeifle takes over from City Attorney Stacy Kooistra, who announced last month he would be stepping down from the position to take a role as the chief operations officer and general counsel for the Dakota State University-Applied Research Corporation.

Pfeifle served as Sioux Falls' city attorney from 2010 through 2017, during Mayor Mike Huether's administration, and left to take a role as the executive director of the South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance.

Attorney David Pfeifle speaks with city council members about the Premier Center budget Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Carnegie Hall.

TenHaken's appointment of Pfeifle was approved in a 6-1 vote, with Councilor Pat Starr the only opposing vote after he referenced "strong statements" at the start of TenHaken's term about Huether's administration and some of their actions on transparency and the city's controversial parking ramp project.

Pfeifle's appointment is effective as of April 3.
