Addressing weed resistance in 2023

Weed resistance will be a challenge for farmers across the Corn Belt again this growing season, according to an expert with BASF.

Technical Services Representative Mark Storr says tillage is an option to help combat tough-to-control weeds.

“No weed is resistant to the working of the soil,” he said. “That will indeed provide some good benefits in getting off to a good start in the spring.”

He also suggests producers can apply a herbicide with strong residual control.

“Using different modes of action,” Storr said. “Those that are able to prevent those weeds from emerging.”

Storr says weeds reduce crop yields and quality.
