Michigan Sugar announces new CEO

Neil C. Juhnke has been named the new President and CEO of the Michigan Sugar Company.

The North Dakota native tells Brownfield he plans to spend the first few weeks on the job in April getting to know farmer members.

“Hearing from the farmers, what are their priorities, what are their challenges, how can we improve harvest, what can we focus on that makes them more productive,” he says.

Juhnke says he looks forward to working where the sugarbeet industry was born.

“I enjoy working in an environment where when we make a difference, and we make a profit, that profit goes back to the balance sheets of local and regional farmers,” he shares.

Juhnke has a more than 30-year career in agribusiness and food processing sectors including at the American Crystal Sugar Company.

Mark Flegenheimer is retiring from the position after serving the sugar industry for 40 years.
