Gov. Chris Sununu (R-N.H.) is speaking out with his take on the latest legal debacle former President Donald Trump could be faced with in the coming days.

During a recent appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union," the Republican governor explained how he believes this debacle is actually working in the former president's favor; something that could work against Democrats.

Based on Republicans' reactions to Trump's posts, Sununu believes the impending arrest has helped the former president build sympathy.

“I think it’s building a lot of sympathy for the former president,” Sununu said on Sunday, March 19.

Per The Hill, the governor also shared details about some of his conversations with other Republicans who aren’t “big Trump supporters. According to Sununu, even that faction of Republicans believes Trump “was being attacked.”

“I just think that not just the media, but really, a lot of the Democrats have misplayed this in terms of building sympathy for the former president and it does drastically change the paradigm as we go into the ‘24 election,” Sununu said.

Sununu's remarks come just days after Trump's all-caps rant on social media where he discussed his possible arrest which would be in connection with a previous case involving hush money paid to Stormy Daniels, a woman Trump reportedly had an affair with. In his post, Trump urged his supporters to protest; an action he encouraged prior to the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

However, Sununu noted that Trump's possible arrest has nothing to do with Jan. 6 as he insisted that there are other maters that should be prioritized.

“There’s a question about why they’re doing it, something seven years ago. It’s not a nothing, but it’s moving money and how he claimed money being moved between him and his lawyer. You know, there are other issues that really take precedent in terms of where this country needs to go, what we need to do to get stuff done, how we manage our budget, how we secure the border,” Sununu said.

He also said, “There’s much more pressing issues of the day. It’s just unfortunate this has taken the headlines.”
