When Democrats were still in charge of the U.S. House of Representatives, members of the House Oversight Committee conducted an extensive investigation of gifts they say that members of Donald Trump's family received from foreign officials when he was president. The results of that probe can be found in a 15-page report.

According to Washington Post reporters Jacqueline Alemany and Josh Dawsey, federal officials have been unable to find two of the items mentioned in that report: a "life-size painting of Trump" from Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele and golf clubs from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

"The gifts are among more than 100 foreign gifts — with a total value of nearly $300,000 — that Trump and his family failed to report to the State Department in violation of federal law, according to the report, which cites government records and e-mails," Alemany and Dawsey explain. "The 15-page report…. revealed that the Trump family did not disclose dozens of gifts from countries that are not U.S. allies or have a complicated relationship with Washington."

However, the Post journalists note that "most of the more than 100 gifts identified by the (House Oversight) Committee are now in the custody of the National Archives or the federal government."

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) discussed the House Oversight report with the Post but had no comment on whether or not House Democrats plan to make a criminal referral to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Raskin told the Post, "We’ve been able to piece all of this together through independent sources, but there could be a lot more given that none of these gifts have been reported. And we’ve only found out about them through different kinds of investigative work and accidents."
