Minnesota farmer concerned about spring snowmelt

A farmer in south-central Minnesota is concerned wet conditions will delay spring fieldwork.

Sam Ziegler of Good Thunder says the eighth-largest snowfall total on record occurred this winter.

“I’m kind of dreading snow melt behind fence lines or snow fence or groves that’s so deep and thick that it feels like it’s going to take forever to get rid of.”

He tells Brownfield the snowpack has limited frost in the soil.

“So that is helpful.”

Ziegler says he’s locking in fuel and marketing some grain as he waits to begin working ground.
