Chase Sapphire Preferred: 90k In-Branch Offer (Ends Saturday 6/10)

27

Update 6/7/23: All good things must come to an end. Doctor of Credit has shared the internal Chase memo below, stating that the 90K in-branch offer will rest with its ancestors on June 10th, to be replaced by a lesser, 70K offer (which is still better than the 60K public offer).

We’ve seen a number of reports over the past few days about a 90K offer for the Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) card that will soon be available in-branch. Doctor of Credit received a Chase internal memo which indicates that, starting 3/19, there will be an in-branch welcome offer of 80,000 Ultimate Rewards points after $4,000 in spend within the first 3 months plus an additional 10,000 points after spending $6,000 total within the first 6 months.

Our assumption is that this will be available at all Chase locations. However, as always with these in-branch offers, it can pay to call and confirm before going.

Quick Thoughts

We see better in-branch offers for the Sapphire Preferred now and then — sometimes the online offer also increases, but not always. While 90K points isn’t the best offer that we’ve ever seen on the Sapphire Preferred (it’s been as high as 100K), it is still an excellent offer that could be well worth the trip to a Chase branch.

Currently, referral links go to the 60K public offer. However, if that increases, a household referral would add another 15,000 points to the total haul. If you’re in a 2-player household and already have one Sapphire Preferred, it may be worth holding off for a bit to see whether or not this 90K offer eventually goes online.

Wow wife was just approved for the SP following recon letter written by me to corp. She has a 764 credit score 10%UT and 250k available CL across all accounts. She was at 9/24. Very surprised as I am at 7/24 and got a big NO.

We applied in May so she gets the 80k SUB after 4 k spend in 90 days

Wow, what a mess! I called Chase yesterday to verify eligibility and was told everything looked good, under 5/24, and that P2 was bonus eligible today, went into the branch to apply. Branch was unable to pull up the Sapphire Preferred offer on P2’s account, the banker called a support line and the rep said we were the 4th person today that has had that problem. They couldn’t resolve the issue and told me to apply for the card online at the lower amount, call in once we’ve met the spend, they’d put in the request for the additional points for the bonus. They notated it all on the account. They were helpful but I left questioning.

We just submitted the app online (not through a referral link since they’d see that and deny the additional bonus points) and was sent to reconsideration. Called in to get the reconsideration moved along and was told we were at 5/24. Most recent card was a CapOne Spark Biz card yet it’s showing on the consumer history. I see it in Experian listed as a Business Card yet it’s on the personal card history, annoying. Chase hasn’t been helpful, they’re saying their report from Experian shows different data than the Experian app is showing me.

Yeehaw, fun times

Hi Tim, Do you know if my spouse use my SP card to pay for my spouse award tix on AA but using her own AA points, does she qualify for the travel insurance offered by my SP card? Thanks!

Malmel

Tim, can you please confirm comments below regarding if I have the Sapphire Reserve now (obtained in 2017), product change to a Freedom now, can I apply for the Sapphire Preferred immediately and get the bonus? Or do I need to wait for some period of time? Assume I meet 5/27 rule.

Malmel

And before i product change, move points to a card that transfers to partners!

Abujordan

I was told in branch, & they confirmed via phone with card services, that I need to wait 31 days after downgrade of reserve to freedom flex before the option to get preferred would appear in my in branch account application.

malmel

Thank you for the update.

Abujordan

Went to branch today and my account was updated and showed eligible. App got approved. It did not take 31 days. Banker was very accomodating, and remembered me because this was my 4th attempt.

Dan

I am now seeing referral links for 80K CSP online today.

[…] to Doctor of Credit and Frequent Miler for reporting on the increased welcome […]

Jill

Does anyone know if we are eligible for the referral points with this offer? For instance if I go to the branch with my husband to open this card for him and say I’m referring him, would they give me the 15k points?

Paul5795

I know the bonus restrictions include 1) Not having received a sapphire bonus in past 48 months and 2) not currently having an open Sapphire card. I have the Sapphire Reserve now, which I obtained about six years ago. If I cancel the Reserve now, can I apply for the Sapphire Preferred a few weeks later? I will meet the technical requirements for the bonus, but will Chase hold the Reserve cancellation against me?

Jill

As far as I know, you will not be eligible for a new CSP for 24 months after account closing.

Max

This is not true. Plenty of dp proved otherwise.

Oliver

Product change the old Sapphire to a Freedom card. The freedom and the freedom flex will give you 5x rotating categories. Product changing will preserve the credit card history/age of accounts.

The Value Traveler

Any DP’s of SM to get the offer if already got it?

Alfred

My friend applied online using my referral link a month ago. Would they match the bonus?

Jill

I called the Chase card customer service line recently to ask this because I opened my CSP on 2/20 and then saw this offer and they DID honor the in-branch offer for me (but only up to the 80,000. I’m not eligible for the additional 10k but I’ll take it.) I am hearing others having mixed luck trying this. It might depend on the agent you speak with.

Brandon8100

I saw a rumor that the public offer will be 80k.

Kiki

Try requesting via secure message. For my family, they always say as soon as I reach min spend for bonus, I may request it. I always refer to my original match request and their secure message response once I meet min spend.

iahphx

I assume there will be the usual 5-24 consideration in obtaining this card?

Darla Perry

Disqualified if prior CSP?

Brandon8100

I think it’s 48 months since the last welcome bonus was earned.

patrick

I downgrade this card to a Flex last Oct. what are the chances of me getting this again? (originally got it in 2020)
Thanks

Jonathan

Need to wait 48 months between Sapphire bonuses, so yes you can get the card, but NO you won’t get the bonus

patrick

Drat.. that’s what I was afraid of… thanks

patrick

And what are the restrictions for getting this card again?
Thanks
