Is 2023 the year of the four-day workweek?

The push towards a four-day workweek has been steadily gaining momentum (Bernie Sanders even tweeted in support this week), and the latest research out of the U.K. confirms that a shorter workweek has no negative impact on employee productivity and company revenue.

The large-scale, six-month pilot program — which included 61 participating companies and 3,000 employees — found that 92% of the organizations liked the four-day workweek so much that they decided to continue with the arrangement.

Workers agreed to use a “100-80-100” model, which meant they received 100% of their pay for 80% of the time, but committed to 100% of the output. The pilot found consistent benefits across industries: employees reported that they slept better, felt less burnout, and had more time to care for loved ones, while company revenue rose by an average of 1.4% and staff turnover dropped by 57%. None of the experimenting companies opted to return to the five-day workweek. Check out the rest of the study findings in the top spot in our list of must-read articles for talent professionals.

Further down the list, read about how young professionals are struggling to find a balance between their personal and work lives (more than 50% of workers in a recent poll admitted they check on work while on a date); learn why the E.U. banned TikTok from employees’ phones; and discover the latest workplace trend — #BareMinimumMondays.
