An 82-year-old New York nursing home resident who was pronounced dead was found to be breathing three hours later after she had already been taken to the funeral home, police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at Water's Edge Rehab and Nursing Center in Port Jefferson on Long Island at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. She was taken to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place at 1:30 p.m., Suffolk County police said in a statement to USA TODAY.

At 2:09 p.m., she was found breathing, they said.

Police said Monday the woman has been transported to a local hospital but did not provide any further updates of her condition.
