Names released in fatal one-vehicle crash on I-29

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has released the name of a person killed in a one-vehicle crash southeast of Tea.

The crash happened on Jan. 25, at mile marker 71 on I-29. The South Dakota Department of Safety indicated that a Dodge Ram pickup truck was northbound on the interstate when the driver lost control of the vehicle while merging lanes. The vehicle then entered the median and rolled.

Michelle Nimick, 49, was the driver, according to the department, and was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Irvin Loeffler, Jr., 52, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries, according to the department. Both were from Sioux Falls, the report said. Road conditions are thought to have been a factor in the crash.
