A cold pattern ahead for the Heartland; an active storm track shifts southward

Looking ahead,  the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures along and northwest of a line from southeastern Louisiana to southern New Jersey, while warmer-than-normal weather will be confined to the southern Atlantic region.

Meanwhile, near- or below-normal precipitation across much of the country, including the Plains, Midwest, and Southwest, should contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in northern California, the Northwest, and the area southeast of a line from coastal Texas to southern New England.
