LAS CRUCES – An El Paso man charged with killing two people in Chaparral was held in jail on a judge's order this week.

Patrick James Woods, 37, was charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, one count of leaving the scene of a crash, resisting arrest, open container and failure to give immediate notice of a crash.

According to a criminal complaint, Jose Marrero and Desiree Seanez died in the wreck on Jan. 17, near Highway 213, around 5:25 p.m.

Court records indicate Woods was driving a Jeep down the highway when he slammed into a Toyota Scion carrying Marrero and Seanez. Police believe Woods then drove away from the area before a border patrol helicopter spotted him as he was trying to seek medical attention.

On Jan. 23, prosecutors with the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office argued that Woods was dangerous and that no bond could protect the public. Therefore, they said Woods should be held in jail.

District Judge Douglas Driggers agreed and ordered Woods held indefinitely.
