Geraldo Rivera brandishes musket during intense on-air debate with Sean Hannity about 2A, assault rifles
Fox News contributor Geraldo Rivera brandished a musket while engaging in a heated on-air argument with Sean Hannity and Pete Hegseth.
On Tuesday, January 24, the three discussed gun control, and at one point during their debate, Rivera argued that "the Second Amendment, ratified in 1791, wasn't written with consideration to the high-powered firearms brandished in today's society," Mediaite reports.
While the three were embroiled in the discussion, Rivera gestured to someone out of the line of the camera to hand him the firearm as they mulled over the meaning of the acronym "AR."
“Geraldo, it doesn’t stand for assault rifle,” Hannity said. “That’s not what it is.”
“I said ArmaLite,” Rivera confirmed. “It is an assault rifle.”
“You probably have not fired one and compared and contrasted it to the other weapons,” Hannity replied. “The reality, whether it’s a pistol, whether it’s a rifle, America’s Second Amendment is clear. The right of the people to keep and to bear arms shall not be infringed.”
“How many is too many?” Rivera asked.
Hannity went on to argue that residents have the right to defend themselves in their own homes. At one point, he asked, “What would you do if somebody broke into your home?"
As Hannity posed his question, Rivera gestured for the weapon. Holding the musket, Rivera said, “This is what weapons looked like. This is what they looked like when the Second Amendment was passed. This is what they looked like.”
Hannity leveled a warning for Rivera saying, "You’re going to get arrested in New York for having that. I’m just warning you.”
However, Rivera fired back with his own argument.
“You wanna own this? You can own this,” Rivera said. “You can load it, you can do whatever you want with it.”
Despite Rivera's arguments, Hannity and Hegseth didn't seem very impressed.
“That’s very cute,” Hannity sarcastically said as Hegseth added, “And I can ride to work on a horse.”
