Freezing rain Wednesday could make the morning commute tricky, according to weather forecasters.

A weather system brewing for the region could drop a little snow Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

By daybreak Wednesday, rain and freezing rain might blend in, according to the weather service. The chance of precipitation for the day along the Interstate-81 corridor is between 90% and 100%.

Although an online National Weather Service forecast for the Hagerstown area calls for a possible mixed bag of precipitation on Wednesday, National Weather Service meteorologist Louis Rosa believes moderating temperatures as the day wears on will keep the threat of dangerous weather down.

"By afternoon, temperatures should be warm enough for rain," Rosa said Monday.

Rain is expected to continue Wednesday night, then things will turn windy and cold Thursday before a warming trend develops for the region early next week, Rosa said.

Pennsylvania towns like Waynesboro, Greencastle and Chambersburg are expected to face similar conditions Wednesday, with a freezing-rain threat during the morning commute, according to Joe Bauco, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in State College, Pa.
