House Ag Chair says DC needs dairy a pricing discussion

The Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee says Washington needs to have a conversation about dairy pricing issues.

Glenn GT Thompson of Pennsylvania tells Brownfield the federal milk marketing orders should be examined. “We need to have a good honest look at it. We need to have a good adult discussion. We need both production and processing to come together on this, and there are other things that we obviously need to do.”

Thompson says he learned long ago you can’t keep doing what you’re doing if you expect different results. “I know that’s been something that in the past people would try to avoid opening up the federal milk marketing orders, but I’m alarmed at the number of dairy herds, cows, farms that we lose on an annual basis.”

Thompson expects there will be discussions about the federal orders and the milk pricing issues might carry into the new farm bill.
