Information released about New Year’s Eve pedestrian fatality in Waynesboro

Some information has been released and the investigation continues into the New Year’s Eve accident that claimed the life of a Waynesboro woman.

Edna Brady, 61, was crossing West Main Street from north to south in the crosswalk at Mulberry Street at 6:47 p.m. Dec. 31 when she was hit in the westbound lane by a 2009 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Anthony Brown, 21, also of Waynesboro, according to Waynesboro police. Brown remained at the scene, police said.

Main Street was closed for an extended period of time after the accident. More details about the incident were not release.

This was the first of four serious pedestrian accidents in less than two weeks in the Tristate area.

Another pedestrian was killed in an accident Jan. 9 in Williamsport, Md. Sally Ann Redding, 72, of Williamsport, died after being hit by a truck in front of the Waffle House on U.S. 11 at 5:45 a.m.

In Chambersburg, one person was taken to WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital after a pedestrian accident just before 9:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at South Second and East McKinley streets. Edio Estuardo-Melendez was charged with accidents involving death or personal injury, according to court records. He was put in Franklin County Jail on $35,000 bail.

Also, two people were flown to a trauma center after being hit crossing Wayne Avenue, also in Chambersburg, just after noon on Thursday, Jan. 5. Their injuries are serious, but do not appear to be life-threatening.
