USA TODAY Sports' Week 18 NFL picks: Which teams reach playoffs, lock up No. 1 seeds?

Nate Davis
USA TODAY

The NFL is calling it the "Season Finale," Saturday's and Sunday's Week 18 games marking the conclusion of the 2022 regular season.

And it's nice to shift the focus back to the field after a week of league- and nation-wide concern for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, whose on-field collapse Monday led to a hospitalization and cancellation of Buffalo's game with the Cincinnati Bengals.

With Hamlin now seemingly out of the scariest part of the woods, the playoffs approach and could be marked by an unprecedented set of outcomes following the league's decision to nix Buffalo-Cincinnati – creating the NFL's first unbalanced schedule since 1935. But whether a neutral site AFC championship game comes about or the Bengals and Baltimore Ravens potentially determine the site of a wild-card matchup via coin flip, much still must be determined first.

Both conference's No. 1 seeds – and the first-round bye and home-field advantage that come with them (a neutral site in the AFC notwithstanding) – remain up for grabs, as do a pair of wild-card slots and an AFC South title battle in Jacksonville on Saturday night.

The Green Bay Packers will host the Detroit Lions on Sunday night in the last game of the weekend. If the Pack run their winning streak to five, they head to postseason. If the Lions win and the Seattle Seahawks lose Sunday afternoon, Detroit is playoff-bound for the first time since 2016.

Thanks to Hamlin's remarkable recovery, should be fun.
