[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’m very conscious I haven’t done a Beauty Business News this month – I’ll get it done over Christmas but suffice to say that not very much has happened that’s exciting! Every time sale season starts I tell myself I won’t do a sales post because for some it’s just extra pressure and obviously infuriating if you paid full price earlier in the season. But, the sales I’ve been drawn into are Boden, The White Company and (not in the sale but not expensive relatively speaking) Mango.
Hmm, a white, sparkly skirt – what could possibly go wrong? I almost never wear a skirt – but recently have been (a bit) drawn back to them and bought a black satin bias cut (sorry to say it was Primark but it was a ‘test’ skirt to see if it ever saw the light of day again – but it has and it’s changed my attitude to skirts). The above skirt in ivory from The White Company (to size 18) is perfect if you don’t want FULL ON glitter party – it’s sequins are just at the bottom section and so it’s a pared back version. Trends change and I thank the fashion gods for their pairings of big jumpers and boots with skirts which is the best way to wear them in my view. I’m not a big dress up fan but I’d wear any of the skirts I’m showing with a jumper and boots. Also, in this cold, I can’t even consider a nice gauzy shirt. Nope.
The joy of this is – hello summer! This is a great holiday skirt for starters, plus it has an elastic waist. Weirdly, in order for skirts to look nice on me I need to wear them almost on the hip rather than on the waist which is easily do-able with this. It was £159 and is now £111.30 HERE. It’s an investment piece (I can’t believe I just said that) but it’s all season and will look beautiful forever.

Bear with! This is my absolute fantasy skirt – I’ve seen people wearing them and really, really wanted to try one. There’s something off-duty model about them – and despite the frills, are for a very relaxed look. Biker jacket, roll neck, boots, trainers, sweatshirt – whatever you want to wear with it is ok. I don’t know why but Paula Yates is springing to mind – her attitude to clothes was that if she wanted to wear a ball gown for breakfast she just did. The pink ruffle tulle skirt is from Boden and again has an elasticated waist. In my head, it’s teamed with a roll neck boxy cashmere sweater. There are four colour options and it was £150 but is now £90 HERE with sizes up to 20.
Perfect, right? This sweater is cashmere and half price at £138 instead of £230 HERE. Sizes go up to 22 for this and all sizes are in stock at the time of writing.
Mango is my favourite high street store – this skirt is least expensive of everything I’ve featured at £59 and it’s the one I would put with a shirt or blouse (with twenty vests underneath). It’s metallic black that looks like it has a gold shift in the swing and again, I think you can bring this out again in summer with a simple t-shirt and flip flops and still look season appropriate. Music to my ears are the words ‘machine washable’ and ‘elastic waist’. I think once you’ve done elastic you never go back to a fully waist bound skirt. I’d pair this with a black v-neck sweater and my biker jacket to bring it down to a more muted look if I wasn’t feeling the blouse, shirt, scoop top. I’m not a long skirt person but recently bought a long silver pleated skirt and I think it’s going to be the gift that keeps giving..I’ve worn it twice on nights out with black, it’ll work for Christmas Day, and I can see it with a vest & trainers for festivals next year!
yes, that pink tulle is ever closer to my basket! oh vest and trainers… that’s sold it.
