Grassley says E15 bill may get pushed to new Congress

A US Senator from Iowa says it may be difficult for a new bill that would allow year-round sales of E15 to pass in the lame duck session of Congress.

The US Senate recently introduced the Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act of 2022, which would make permanent sales of E15 blends a reality.

Republican Chuck Grassley tells Brownfield if the bill isn’t passed, it will be a priority in the new Congress. “I think that’s a very difficult thing to get done this year,” Grassley said during his weekly press call with farm reporters Tuesday. “But we are not going to stop fighting for it for sure.”

Grassley says the American Petroleum Institute supports the bill despite the oil industry’s longtime opposition to expanding biofuels production. “You’re getting some big oil investment in biofuels production for one thing,” Grassley said. “Secondly, you have the governors of the Midwest talking about making E15 year-round.”

The legislation has been endorsed by numerous ag groups across the country.
