The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into a death that occurred at a Sioux Falls packaging facility on Tuesday.

Scott Allen, a spokesperson for OSHA, confirmed the investigation on Friday, saying that investigators are currently speaking with employees and the owner of Bell Inc. to determine what happened.

Allen was unable to disclose the manner of death or the age and gender of the employee.

In a statement, Ben Arndt, the Chief Operating Officer, wrote that the company was saddened by the loss of an employee at their Algoquin Street facility.

"Bell Incorporated will also continue to cooperate with the authorities and investigators to better understand how this incident occurred. The safety and well-being of our employees remains our top priority," Arndt wrote.

OSHA has up to six months to investigate the death and determine if the company violated any safety standards set in place by the government branch of the Department of Labor, Allen said. If OSHA determines Bell violated a standard, a citation will be issued.

Bell Inc. is a Sioux Falls-based packaging company that specializes in food packaging, mail envelopes and consumer products, according to their website.
