Illinois winter wheat conditions fell in USDA’s final crop progress and condition report for 2022.
As of Sunday, only 30% of the crop is considered good to excellent, down from 35% the week before and a significant decrease from 82% at this time last year. 84% of the crop has emerged, about 10 percentage points behind average for the last week in November.
Corn and soybean harvest are complete in Illinois. Rob Shaffer of El Paso farms in McLean and Woodford counties and tells Brownfield it was a good year for both crops.
“Last year was a record on my farm for both corn and soybeans, I knew it was going to be less this year because we didn’t get the rainfall that we did in 2021. But overall, I’m very happy and we should be able to pay the banker off this year.”
The USDA’s next round of 2022 production estimates is scheduled for December 9th and the first crop progress and condition report for 2023 will come out the first week in April.
