Iowa farmer says subsoils need replenished
An eastern Iowa farmer says additional moisture is needed to improve subsoil conditions for next growing season.
Lance Lillibridge raises corn, soybeans, and alfalfa in Benton County.
“We’re not terribly bad, but the last two years we’ve definitely lost some subsoil moisture,” he said. “Those are going to be concerns.”
He tells Brownfield a decent snowpack combined with timely spring rains could take care of the issue.
“We’ve had some moisture this fall that has helped,” he said, “but we haven’t replenished.”
Lillibridge says he’s optimistic about the 2023 growing season.
