Many MAGA Republicans who live in the Fox News/Fox Business bubble greeted Tuesday, November 8 with a belief that the 2022 midterms would bring a massive red wave and deal a severe blow to President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. It didn’t happen.

While Democrats performed badly in Florida — which really did experience a red tsunami and found Gov. Ron DeSantis winning a 19 percent reelection victory — they performed much better in other places, flipping a GOP-held U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania and winning gubernatorial races in not only Pennsylvania, but also, Michigan, Wisconsin, Maryland, Illinois, Maine, New York State, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, California and Colorado. Even in deep red Kansas, Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly was reelected.

Republicans may still flip the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, but it certainly won’t be by the huge margins the Republican National Committee (RNC) was hoping for. And comedian Seth Meyers, during a scathing post-midterms commentary on the November 9 broadcast of “Late Night,” was happy to rub some salt on the GOP’s wounds.

“Well, results from last night’s wild midterm elections are still rolling in, and several races are still too close to call, including control of both the House and Senate,” Meyers told viewers. “So, we have to be patient. As of right now, our decision desk here at ‘Late Night’ is using very cautious language to describe the state of the race this way: With 87 percent of precincts reporting, we can now project that Republicans f****d up and s**t the bed like a bunch of jabronis.”

Meyers showed a collage of Fox News pundits predicting a massive “red wave,” then mocked them for getting it wrong.

“Control of both houses of Congress is essentially a toss-up right now, and Republicans could still end up winning both the House and the Senate,” Meyers told viewers. “So, it’s wise to be cautious. But on the other hand, despite strong political headwinds — including the fact that historically, the party in power tends to get swamped in the midterms — the race for the House and the Senate is essentially a toss-up at this taping, which is crazy. Democrats actually flipped some Republican-held House seats in states like Ohio, while also winning back governorships in states like Maryland and Massachusetts. Americans voted to protect abortion rights.”

Meyers went on to slam Republicans ranging from Dr. Mehmet Oz to former President Donald Trump to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to Rep. Lauren Boebert, who, he noted, was trailing her Democratic opponent, Adam Frisch, in the vote count in a district of Colorado that “absolutely no one thought would be competitive.”

Offering some Pennsylvania/New Jersey humor, Meyers remarked, “The only way Oz could have been a a worse candidate is if he was seen in a Devils jersey fighting with Gritty, screaming, ‘7-11 is better than Wawa and Sheetz’…. Last night was, if nothing else, clearly a strong repudiation of Trumpism from voters.”
