Dry week keeps Wisconsin farmers in the field

A mostly-dry week allowed Wisconsin farmers to get in the fields to harvest more hay, corn silage, and get started on the soybean harvest in some areas.

USDA reporters say ninety-seven percent of the soybeans are coloring, which is ahead of average and 81% of the soybeans are dropping leaves.  The soybean harvest is 11% finished, which is 3 days ahead of average.

Ninety-four percent of the corn is dented, with 69% mature, and 79% of the corn in good to excellent condition.  The corn silage harvest is now 59% complete, which is about five days behind average.

The potato harvest is 65% finished.

Winter wheat planting is now 54% finished.

The fourth cutting of alfalfa is 94% done, which is about two full weeks ahead of average.

Fall tillage is about a week ahead of average with 17% now finished.
