Wisconsin farmers begin harvesting corn for grain

Corn silage chopping continues and some Wisconsin farmers are harvesting corn for grain.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says silage is 39 percent harvested, ten days behind last year and six days behind the five-year average.

Forty-two percent of corn is mature, one day off the typical pace.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 54 percent, five days behind a year ago and two days behind normal.

The potato harvest is running a little slower than usual at 56 percent, winter wheat planting is just under 40 percent, and the fourth cutting of alfalfa is about 90 percent complete.
