Soybean harvest begins in Illinois, corn harvest 6% complete

Soybean harvest began in Illinois last week.

The USDA reports as of Sunday, 2% of the crop is harvested, compared to 9% at this time last year and the 5-year average of 10%. 63% of the crop is dropping leaves with 66% in the good to excellent category.

Corn harvest is 6% complete, compared to 20% at this time last year and the average 16%. 47% of the crop is mature and the USDA rates 69% of Illinois corn good to excellent.

Winter wheat planting also began last week, with 1% in the ground, compared to the 5-year average of 3%.
