Brown discusses Senate Ag Committee farm bill progress

US Senator Sherrod Brown says the Senate Ag Committee is committed to completing the 2023 Farm Bill in a timely manner.

“There’s a real commitment among my colleagues in both parties on the Senate Ag Committee,” he says. “One of the most interesting and gratifying parts of serving on that committee is how bipartisan it is…we (reauthorize the farm bill) every five years and there’s not much else that we update on a regular cycle the way we do the farm bill through the agriculture committee.”

He tells Brownfield he continues to check in with farmers about priority issues.

“Farmers are of course concerned with rising fertilizer, input, and fuel costs,” he says. “They’re talking about that and talking about conservation. More and more farmers are recognizing that crop yields are vulnerable because of climate change. It’s just one of the many challenges they face, and I go to them and listen because they know their land, their farms, and their communities.”

Brown, who is the first Ohioan to serve on the committee in nearly 50 years, will host roundtables with farmers around the state in the coming months
