Harvest pace picks up in eastern Iowa

An eastern Iowa farmer says the 2022 corn harvest is picking up steam.

Kurt Kirchner says some growers in his area have high expectations for this year’s crop. “The growers that I’ve rode with in the combine the last couple days are very pleased with what they are getting right now.”

But he tells Brownfield disease pressure was a concern during the growing season. “Tar spot is one that I think is going to be an issue every year from here on out,” Kirchner said. “I’m not happy to say that, but I think it’s going to be another management issue that we’re going to have to deal with.”

Kirchner farms north of Nichols in Muscatine County.
