'Awkward and angry': Donald Trump and allies lash out over Joe Biden's anti-MAGA extremism speech

Former President Donald Trump joined the train of disgruntled Republicans who were not pleased with President Joe Biden's speech condemning extremism within the Republican Party.

On Thursday, September 1, Trump took to Truth Social with his reaction to Biden's primetime address from Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, Penn. The former president raised questions about Biden's health after he described the MAGA movement as "extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic."

"Someone should explain to Joe Biden, slowly but passionately, that MAGA means, as powerfully as mere words can get, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! If he doesn't want to Make America Great Again, which through words, action, and thought, he doesn't, then he certainly should not be representing the United States of America," Trump wrote.

Trump described Biden's speech as "awkward and angry" as he suggested that the president may be battling "late-stage dementia." "If you look at the words and meaning of the awkward and angry Biden speech tonight, he threatened America, including with the possible use of military force. He must be insane, or suffering from late-stage dementia!"

At another point during the speech, Biden took aim at MAGA-aligned Republicans attempting to disregard the Constitution. "MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people," Biden said.

However, he didn't stop there. Biden voiced all of his concerns about the MAGA agenda. "They promote authoritarian leaders, and they fan the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country.

"They look at the mob that stormed the United States Capitol on January 6 — brutally attacking law enforcement — not as insurrectionists who placed a dagger to the throat of our democracy, but they look at them as patriots," Biden added.

Like Trump, other Republicans also sounded off with their reactions. House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) called for Biden to apologize to the Republicans he called out during his speech.

"Instead of trying to bring our country together to solve the MANY problems he has created, President Biden has chosen to divide, demean, and disparage his fellow Americans—simply because they disagree with his policies," tweeted McCarthy. "Mr. President: you owe millions of Americans an apology."

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also sounded off with her complaints comparing Biden to German dictator, Adolf Hitler. "What we all saw tonight from Biden," Greene tweeted. "I guess when President Butterbeans is frail, weak, and dementia ridden, the Hitler imagery was their attempt to make him look 'tough' while he declares war on half of America as enemies of the state."
