Ethanol production, stocks slightly tighter

U.S. ethanol production and stocks both declined slightly last week.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 1.022 million barrels a day, a decrease of 21,000 on the week, but an increase of 36,000 on the year.

Iowa State University’s Center for Agricultural and Rural Development says ethanol margins are in positive territory for most Midwestern producers.

Two major indicators of ethanol demand moved higher.

The Renewable Fuels Association says net inputs by ethanol refiners and blenders were up fractionally, notching a ten-week high, while the volume of gasoline supplied to consumers gained nearly 7%.

The domestic supply fell 138,000 barrels to 23.256 million, but that was still half a million above a year ago.

The RFA says ethanol imports last week averaged 36,000 barrels a day, the first reported imports in three months.

The USDA’s next corn for ethanol use estimate is out Friday at Noon Eastern/11 Central.
