Being a mom is hard. Is there an area where you are struggling today?

Every phase of life has its challenges with our children. It seems that as soon as my children are doing well in one area, they begin to struggle in another. I remember when they were little, I felt like I was disciplining them over and over in the same area – and I wondered “will they ever get it?”.

Being a mom is hard, and we must not try to do it alone!  Remember we have access to the God of the universe and we must never fail to pray for our children.

There is no one who can pray for a child like their mother and if we aren’t praying for our kids – who is? Prayer is something that is ongoing for the rest of their lives and it is a privilege to pray for them.

God’s Word is full of scripture that we can use to pray for our children. He already gives us the words to pray over them!

Let’s take a look together at what His Word says.

Here’s 10 Verses To Pray Over Your Child-

1. God, I pray that they would have a desire for your word and grow in knowledge of you.

Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. ~2 Peter 3:18

2. God, I pray that they would have compassion and love for those around them.

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. ~Romans 12:10

3. God, I pray that they would not be controlled by fear, but by your power.

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. ~2 Timothy 1:7

4. God, I pray that they would have a strong prayer life and seek you throughout the day.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. ~Philippians 4:6

5. God, I pray that they would have courage and always stand up for what is right.

Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. ~Ephesians 6:14-15

6. God, I pray that they would take refuge in you and look to you as their stronghold.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. ~Psalm 18:2

7. God, I pray that when they are tempted, that they will always hear your voice and choose your ways.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. ~1 Corinthians 10:13

8. God, I pray that you would remove confusion from them and fill them with your peace.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.  ~John 14:27

9. God, I pray that they would guard their mouth and choose words that honor you.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. ~Psalm 19:14

10. God, I pray that they would love you with their heart, soul, and mind.

He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” ~Matthew 22:37

Remember that God is at work in your life as much as he is at work in your child’s life. Through our children, our weaknesses (and sinfulness) are revealed. He is purifying you both.

I never realized how selfish, short-tempered and impatient I was until I had kids! Oh, my heart breaks over the times I have lost my temper. I wish I had a redo but we are all human and we all have bad days…or even bad months. Thank goodness for God’s grace and his strength to apologize to my kids when I have been wrong.

So, as I battle my flesh, I must walk closely with God – pray hard – call on his name in times of trouble and temptation and model for my children a mom who is loving, kind, patient, joyful, at peace, gentle, and self-controlled.

None of these qualities come naturally in our flesh – they come by walking in the Spirit and through prayer and God’s word. As we draw close to God, he enables us to walk in the Spirit. So I want to encourage you to get on your knees and pray for your children. If you don’t, who will?
