Drought stress showing up all over in corn

An agronomist says drought symptoms in corn are appearing all over the Midwest.

Mercedes Gearhart with AdvanSix tells Brownfield far northwest Iowa, much of Nebraska, and central parts of Minnesota, Illinois, and Indiana are suffering from a lack of moisture.

“I’ve seen a lot of rolling leaves by mid-morning, and thinking we’re advancing with the crop and getting close to pollination.”

She says the rolling leaves could be detrimental to yield.

“It’s a concern because you need your leaves for containing capacity, and that’s even more (significant) during pollination.”

Gearhart says she’s not as concerned about soybeans in dry conditions right now because there’s more of an opportunity for beneficial rains.
