Right-winger wants January 6th hearings nixed 'out of respect' for Donald Trump 'mourning' Shinzo Abe

Islamophobic, Trump-supporting author Brigitte Gabriel recently tweeted a longshot suggestion insisting the House Select Committee should consider canceling its upcoming hearings "out of respect" for former President Donald Trump as he "mourns" the loss of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

On Friday, July 8, Gabriel tweeted, "The January 6th committee should cancel its upcoming hearings out of respect for President Trump while he is in mourning for the loss of a great friend, Shinzo Abe."

Shortly after Abe's shooting began making headlines, Trump took to Truth Social to release a statement sharing his reaction. "Absolutely devastating news that former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, a truly great man and leader, has been shot, and is in very serious condition," Trump wrote. "He was a true friend of mine and, much more importantly, America. This is a tremendous blow to the wonderful people of Japan, who loved and admired him so much. We are all praying for Shinzo and his beautiful family!"

Once it was confirmed the former prime minister had passed away, Trump returned with another post.

"Really BAD NEWS FOR THE WORLD!" he exclaimed. "Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is dead. He was assassinated. His killer was captured and will hopefully be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Few people know what a great man and leader Shinzo Abe was, but history will teach them and be kind. He was a unifier like no other, but above all, he was a man who loved and cherished his magnificent country, Japan. Shinzo Abe will be greatly missed. There will never be another like him!"

The connection between Trump and Abe stems from their meeting back in 2017 when their "friendship" was forged. At the time, Trump and Abe visited a koi pond at Akasaka Palace while heading to lunch. The two were filmed with boxes of fish food. Instead of following Abe's lead and sparingly feeding the fish, Trump ended up dumping the entire box of fish food in the pond.

Other posts also recalled Trump's interactions with Abe. CNN's Will Ripley broke down the simplified art behind Abe's ability to get along with Trump. “Abe understood before any other world leader what would need to be done to coax and cajole Donald Trump…," Ripley said. "When Trump visited Japan, he didn't try to take him for a traditional Japanese dinner. He brought him to Tokyo's best hamburger place.”

Predictably, Twitter users quickly fired back at Gabriel to remind her of the seemingly odd interaction between the two as they argued that Trump's mourning is not a reason to delay or cancel the hearings.

One Twitter user wrote, "Justice demands that the hearing move forward [Brigitte] but nice try at pretending that trump cared for anyone other than himself, no one buys it but I'll give you a 'D' for effort..."

Another user wrote, "Do you truly believe Trump cares about anyone but himself? On another note, I wonder how much dirt Shinzo Abe had on Donald Trump?"

"Trump hardly knew Abe," one user argued. "Abe was only in the same room as Trump a few times, they rarely spoke."
