Farmer needs more moisture for his pastures

A southwest Iowa cattle producer says extended dryness has limited his pasture growth.

Duane Aistrope tells Brownfield, “We were starting to get nervous. What are we going to do for hay? Do we start feeding hay? But hopefully this rain and the cooler temperatures will get this grass regrowing again.”

He says the second cutting of his alfalfa hay should start in the next couple of weeks. “We’ve been putting up every piece of grass we can find like waterways, the neighbor’s waterways, and turn rows. Just in case we run short.”

Aistrope farms near Randolph in Fremont County.
