ROBSTOWN, Texas — Active duty military, veterans and first responders were offered a free haircut Wednesday courtesy of the Burn Pits Warrior Support Center.
"They protect us everyday, they give their lives, give their time," said John Pizana.
Pizana was among the barbers who volunteered their services free of charge.
He's with Roger's Barber Shop in Annaville. He heard about what the non profit was doing and knew he had to help.
"I decided to take my morning off and called all my clients to reschedule," said Pizana.
It's something close to his heart after having his own family serve in the military.
"In remembrance of them, that is why I am out here," said Pizana.
Robstown PD officer Erik Fiedler stopped by not for a haircut but to help.
"As a former barber myself for 16 years, this is awesome something you can do for the community especially your veterans, you put a smile on those guys faces," said Fiedler.
Those who stopped by will be able to learn more about Burn Pits 360 and their mission in helping veterans. The nonprofit has dedicated more than a decade, fighting for medical benefits for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits overseas.
If you didn't get a chance to stop by, free Haircuts for Heroes will take place every first Wednesday of the month from 10 am to 1 pm at the Burn Pits Warrior Support Center which is at 201 N. 4th Street in Robstown.
