Lauren Boebert mocked after sharing 'deadly' take on Copenhagen mall shooting
Rep. Lauren Boebert's (R-Colo.) latest criticism of calls for stricter gun control appears to have backfired as Twitter users quickly pushed back against her claims.
On Monday, July 4, the Colorado lawmaker used the mass mall shooting in Copenhagen as an opportunity to push her arguments about the ineffectiveness of gun control. According to Boebert, the Denmark shooting serves as proof that strict gun laws will not mitigate mass shootings.
“There was just a mass shooting in Denmark, a country with some of the strictest gun laws in Europe. It’s time to admit that gun laws DO NOT stop mass shootings!” Boebert tweeted.

However, Twitter users quickly pointed out the flaws in her argument. The suspected Denmark shooter, approximately 22 years old, killed three victims and injured another 4 during the disturbing shooting. Law enforcement has indicated that the suspect appears to suffer from mental illness.
Denmark's gun laws differ drastically from the laws governing gun control in the United States. Per HuffPost, automatic weapons are practically banned and it is prohibited even to carry firearms in public. Firearm licenses also require background checks and are usually just available for the purposes of hunting. Over the last seven years, the country has only had one other mass shooting which took place in 2015. That shooting claimed the lives of two victims and the gunman was also killed.
In contrast, HuffPost has highlighted the drastic difference in mass shootings across the United States.
"According to the Gun Violence Archive, the U.S. suffered several mass shootings over the July 4th weekend, including one at an Independence Day parade in a Chicago suburb that left six people dead," HuffPost reported. "There have been more than 300 mass shootings ― incidents where 4 or more people were shot or killed ― in the U.S. this year."
Almost immediately after Boebert tweeted, opposing Twitter users swarmed her post with critical reactions.
