USDA sees fewer second crop soybean acres

The USDA is expecting a slight year-to-year decrease for second crop soybean planting.

4% of U.S. soybean acres are expected to be planted after another crop is harvested, compared to 5% in both 2021 and 2020, matching the 2019 total.

The USDA says nearly 16 million acres of U.S. soybeans remained unplanted as of June 1st.

The USDA’s next production update is out July 12th.

Year to year comparisons for reported Brownfield states:

Arkansas: 4%, unchanged from 2021

Illinois: 5%, compared to 4% in 2021

Indiana: 2%, compared to 5% in 2021

Kansas: 8%, compared to 7% in 2021

Missouri: 6%, unchanged from 2021

Ohio: 2%, compared to 1% in 2021

Tennessee: 21%, compared to 27% in 2021
