Seasonal heat; improved prospects for rain ahead across most of the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- or above-normal temperatures across much of the U.S., while cooler-than-normal conditions will be confined to the Far West, Desert Southwest, and an area stretching from the upper Great Lakes region to New England.

Meanwhile, near- or above-normal rainfall nearly nationwide should contrast with drier-than-normal weather   in the northern Great Basin, western Gulf Coast region, and parts of the Northeast.
