CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two people died after a wrong-way driver caused a head-on crash Friday morning on the Crosstown Expressway, Corpus Christi police officials confirmed to 3NEWS.
Northbound lanes from Highway 358 to Golliar Rd. were closed for hours while police investigated the crash and cleaned up the scene.
The accident happened between Highway 358 and Gollihar Rd. Police said at about 2:30 a.m., a 28-year-old driver got onto Crosstown going the wrong direction at a "high rate of speed." That driver hit another vehicle head-on. The driver that caused the crash was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, who was only 18 years old, was rescued from the car but died shortly after, police said.
Corpus Christi Police Department and Corpus Christi Fire Department responded to the scene.
Officials continue to investigate the accident and are trying to figure out where the vehicle entered the highway going the wrong direction.
