[AD] I have a lot of time for brands that don’t follow the flock and I’m already a big fan of Emma Hardie products (especially the Cleansing Balm which is all things delicious and lush) so the stars are very much aligned for the Lotus Flower Collection.

There’s a misconception that so-called ‘problem’ skin care products have to look and smell a certain way – perhaps a bit medical. We have far too few options for oily and blemish prone complexions, particularly for mid-lifers who suddenly find themselves in the grip of a teenage break out explosion. I’ve had a spot (we can call it this!) on my chin that reappears every month without fail since I changed HRT so I have a small understanding of what it’s like to be taken by surprise at this turn of skin events. Of all the things we could have back from our teen years (energy, curiosity, rebelliousness), we get the skin. Tsk. I’ve now changed again, so I’m hoping that will be an end of it, but the menopause groups I dip in and out of cite skin changes as upsetting and annoying.

So, on the surface, I love that the Lotus Flower range, which is specifically for blemish prone and oily skin at any age, looks and feels like it’s there for the luxury, not the problems. Another bonus is that nothing is heavy. I’m tired of the ‘more is more’ attitude for older skin – not everyone wants or likes weighty creams and the ‘product sweat’ they produce in summer when your skin is saying, no thank you, I just want to breathe! Lotus Flower has thoroughly modern textures where everything feels light yet your skin still feels fully hydrated.

Let’s start with the Lotus Flower Treatment Cream. Both serum and cream are made fragrance-free to be less sensitising and you can layer them – serum first, cream second. They’re instantly soothing and fresh feeling as well as being satisfyingly hydrating. You will feel it straight away. If you wonder why Lotus Flower is chosen, it’s because both Egyptian and Sacred varieties contained in the products have the ability to reduce excess sebum. In the Treatment Cream, they’re combined with (get ready for some unusual names!) preBULIN AGA (pre-biotic that encourages good bacteria to tackle blemishes), Pollustop® (a protective barrier against pollution), AquaxyITM (I can’t say it either, but it’s a hydration booster) and Wild Indigo which regulates cortisol production, you can see how the blend adds up to everything problem skin needs to calm it the heck down.

The Wild Lotus Serum is clear and has a slightly different profile in that it contains PoreAwayTM to reduce shine, microcysts and blackheads, Niacinamide to regulate serum and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate. It has the Wild Lotus of course as well as Wild Indigo. Personally, I feel you need both together and I won’t say that unless I really think it – I don’t have oily skin but of course I have tested all the products and feel they are so complimentary to each other that it’s worth using them in tandem. But, if you want to try one first, I’d suggest the Wild Lotus Serum under any moisturiser that you have that works for you. M&S currently has an offer for a free Brightening Tonic with any two selected Emma Hardie products and it includes the Wild Lotus collection. The Serum is £40, the Cream is £38 and the Blemish Treatment is £18 HERE.

The only product to have any scent to it is the Lotus Flower Targeted Blemish Treatment (to me, it smells like a clean bathroom – lovely!) which is antibacterial and you’d use this calm down a spot and take the redness away. Overall, 89% of testers said their skin was calmer with 77% seeing an improvement in skin texture after 4 weeks. 74% reported fewer breakouts since using the Lotus Flower collection. Any new skin care needs time – but these are good one month results that feel more than encouraging and hormonal skin that hates overload will love this collection.
