Rains helping South Dakota pastures

A north-central South Dakota cattle rancher says his pastures are benefiting from recent rains.

Troy Hadrick says they received over six inches of moisture from April 23rd through the middle of May. “The pastures are coming along just incredibly well,” he said. “They look better now than they ever did last year, so that’s certainly a good thing.”

He tells Brownfield because pasture conditions have improved, they are able to run their cow-calf pairs this spring.  “Last year when we turned out, it was pretty dry and the grass didn’t have much there,” Hadrick said. “We weaned in August, and we ran out of water in a few places and the grass was real short. It’s nice to see us off and running on a good note.”

Hadrick’s ranch is located near Faulkton.
