Former President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement suffered some major disappointments in Georgia on Tuesday, May 24 when two conservative Republicans Trump rivals — Gov. Brian Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — not only survived primary challenges from Trump-backed candidates, but also, enjoyed double-digit victories. And Raffensperger’s victory is being hailed as a defeat for authoritarianism.

Trump has been slamming Kemp and Raffensperger as RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) for refusing to go along with the Big Lie and acknowledging that President Joe Biden won Georgia fairly in the 2020 presidential election. Former Sen. David Perdue (who challenged Kemp) and Rep. Jody Hice (who challenged Raffensperger) both campaigned on the Big Lie, but it didn’t work. Perdue’s loss is especially embarrassing for Trump; Kemp defeated Perdue by a brutal 52% and is now going up against Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams in the general election.

Hice’s loss to Raffensperger wasn’t as painful as what Perdue suffered, but it was still a landslide defeat. Raffensperger defeated the U.S. congressman by 19%.

In both races, conservative Republican voters in a southern state clearly rejected Trump-backed candidates — and the fact that Trump repeatedly attacked Kemp and Raffensperger as RINOs didn’t sway those voters. Raffensperger’s victory is important because as Georgia secretary of state, he plays a key role in the administration of elections.

After the 2020 presidential election, Trump infamously asked Raffensperger to “find” him enough votes to take Georgia away from Biden — and Raffensperger refused to go along with Trump’s brazen effort to steal a democratic election.

Some Twitter users are describing Raffensperger’s victory as a victory over MAGA "authoritarianism: and the “Stop the Steal” movement:

Other Twitter users gloated over seeing Trump-backed candidates losing so badly to Republicans he hates. Here are some of their comments:
