South Dakota farmer faces weather-related planting delays

A northeast South Dakota farmer is navigating planting delays.

Stuart Samson tells Brownfield the weather hasn’t cooperated in his area. “We just haven’t been able to string four or five good drying days together,” he said. “We will get one or two here and there. When guys get moving again, it seems like we get a sprinkle or another shot of rain again.”

Despite the delays, he says they are making progress. “We’re about 50 percent done,” Samson said. “Last of our stuff is just wet. It just needs a few more days and so we started planting beans last weekend. Kind of what we are doing now is picking away at some bean fields that we can go on.”

Samson’s farm is located near Eden.
