Wisconsin farmers accelerated fieldwork last week

Wisconsin farmers made a lot of planting progress last week as the weather was suitable for fieldwork on five out of seven days.  USDA reporters say the rapid pace allowed 27% of the corn and 23% of the soybean crop to get in the ground last week alone.

Overall, Wisconsin farmers have 61% of the state’s corn planted and 26% of the corn has already emerged.

Soybean planting is now 49% finished with emergence at 14%.

Seventy-five percent of the oats are now planted with emergence at 44%.

Potato planting is more than 80% finished.

Wisconsin farmers have also started cutting the first crop of alfalfa with 1% of the crop in.  The all-hay condition is reported as good to excellent for 75% of the fields, which is a 5% improvement over last week.  Pasture conditions have also improved.
