Food Truck Festival, Friday After 5, more in Evansville-area food news

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — We're bringing you Tri-State restaurant happenings and food news you need to know. Here's the latest.

The Evansville Food Truck Festival by Evansville Events will happen for the fifth time on Sunday, May 29, from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at Bosse Field. Over 30 food trucks and vendors will attend the event, both local area trucks and some from farther afield that will offer a taste of something new and different.

A few are: The Best Stuffed Pizza, a new Evansville truck; Tri-R-Tips Hawaiian Style BBQ from Owensboro; Whittaker Beef from Lawrenceville, Ill.; Hello Pop handcrafted soda from Owensboro ,and Deep South BBQ From McCleansboro, Ill.

 A bar area, full schedule of live music, cornhole championship, hot air balloon rides, live painting and art, mechanical bull and kids activities round out the day. General admission tickets are $8.49 and premium and VIP tickets are also available. A flex ticket to a future Otter’s baseball game is included in the ticket price.

The Franklin St. Bazaar will begin on Saturday, May 28, and take place every Saturday morning from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. through Aug. 27 on the lawn of the EVPL West Branch Library. Produce vendors and other food producers, ready-to-eat baked goods, food trucks, plants, art and crafts, and more will be on hand with free yoga and live music.

The Franklin St. Bazaar will be at 2000 W. Franklin St.

Friday After 5, Owensboro, Ky’s weekly festival of music, food trucks and more, begins its 26th season on Friday, May 20, and will continue every Friday night from 5 p.m.-11:30 p.m. for 16 weeks.

Friday After 5 takes place on the Owensboro Riverfront.

Kipplee’s Pizza and bar is adding the locally famous Donate’s Cheese Twinkies to the menu for a limited time. The enormous mozzarella sticks are a hallmark of Chef Dontae Hines, owner of Dontae’s Highland Pizza Parlor on North First Avenue. They are hand breaded and served with marinara sauce for dipping.

A Lunch on the Lawn food truck gathering will happen Friday, May 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the lawn of the Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse.

The Milk Barn Café – the former food trailer with hot, freshly cooked doughnuts and coffee parked off U.S. 41 on Old State Road – has announced that a brick-and-mortar building is in sight. “We are still trying to finalize everything and we will keep you posted,” the business posted to its Facebook page. “Our goal is to be back serving you in the next couple of months.”

Stephen Libs Finer Chocolates is once again scooping ice cream for the season. The house-made ice cream is offered in a dozen flavors such as toffee almond crunch, turtle, black raspberry chocolate chip and Texas peanut butter.
