Corn and soybean planting progresses in southern Iowa

Planting season is winding down for a southern Iowa farmer.

Ray Gaesser says they aren’t far off their average pace. “It’s been a little more of a struggle than last year, but everyone is so well equipped anymore that we can get the crop in here in Iowa in a short period of time,” he said.

He tells Brownfield favorable weather conditions are allowing them to wrap up this week, which will give them time to focus on other needs around the farm.

“We’ve got a little bit of corn yet to deliver to the ethanol plant for May, and then just maybe not pushing it quite as hard as we have been the last couple of weeks,” Gaesser said.

Gaesser farms near Corning in Adams County.
