Northern cattle producers okay with weather so far this year

Not all farmers are complaining about the weather so far this year.

Southwest Minnesota cattle feeder Mike Landuyt says conditions have been good the past several months.

“This winter and this spring so far has been really good cattle feeding weather for us, and with having everything under roof our pens, even with this rain, have been staying dry and the cattle condition is really good. They’ve been gaining really nice this spring.”

Brian Tuttle in northwest Iowa tells Brownfield calving season went well.

“It was phenomenal, it was the best calving I’ve had in a long time. It was weird to complain about it being dusty in January and February when I was calving, but calf health was great and is still great.”

Tuttle has a cow/calf herd and finishes cattle near Marcus, Iowa and Landuyt runs a feedlot near Walnut Grove, Minnesota.
