Gov. Kristi Noem and the South Dakota Department of Education announced Tuesday morning that three schools in the state won a combined $300,000 in fitness equipment.

The schools' winnings follow an announcement three months ago that Noem had launched a new fitness campaign called "Don't Quit" for South Dakota schools, joining the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils.

New state of the art fitness centers will be delivered to Custer Elementary School in Custer, Newell School in Newell, and Sturgis Williams Middle School in Sturgis, and each school will celebrate the awards with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this fall.

“Exercising builds both physical and mental strength," Noem said in a statement. "We want South Dakota to be a leader in teaching kids the building blocks to health and wellness throughout their lives."
