Do you find women friendships to be hard?

Have you been betrayed by a close friend?

How are your friendships affecting you?

Good friends will push you closer to Christ and towards what is good and noble, but bad friends will introduce you to new things and new ways that could lead you astray.

Life is not stagnated.

Just because we have good friends today – that does not mean that we will have good friends tomorrow.  As seasons change, some of our friendships will change as well.  So, we will always have to be wise women, who pay close attention to who is influencing us.

God wants us to learn and grow through our friendships- even when we have been hurt or betrayed by a close friend. He wants us to love and forgive and to keep on loving and forgiving.

If you have been struggling with friendships or hurt by friends in the past, meditate on these encouraging verses and allow God to fill you with all joy, peace, and hope as you trust in Him!

Here’s 10 Verses for When You Struggle with Your Friendships-

1. How will the world know we are Jesus’ disciples? By our love for one another.

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. ~Proverbs 17:17

2. When you feel all alone, remember that Jesus was betrayed by a close friend. He understands and sympathizes with your heartache.

Judas came up to Jesus at once and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” And he kissed him. Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you came to do.” Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. ~Matthew 26:49-50

3. No matter how hurt you are- do not gossip or speak evil of someone.

Do not speak evil against one another. ~James 4:11

4. Treat your friends as you would want to be treated.

As you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. ~Luke 6:31

5. You have a choice in what friendships you decide to surround yourself with- choose wisely.

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” ~1 Corinthians 15:33

6. Choose friends that can say, ‘I am sorry.’

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. ~Romans 3:23

7. Choose friends that draw you closer to God.

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. ~1 Thessalonians 5:11

8. Be sharpened by your friendships.

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.  ~Proverbs 27:17

9. Don’t stop meeting with other believers and having fellowship just because you’ve been hurt by a friend in the past.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken. ~Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

10. Surrender your hurts to God. He is always on your side and will never leave you!

Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? ~Psalm 118:5-6

“Bear with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgive each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” -Colossians 3:13

We must forgive friends who have hurt us. However, forgiveness does not always mean that a friendship needs to continue.  There are times when friendships can definitely be restored if that’s where you feel God is leading you.  BUT, there are also times when certain friendships need to be cut off because it is just not a healthy relationship to have in your life.

Remember…. “God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” ~1 Corinthians 14:33  Listen to Him…He will guide you with His peace in this area.  “Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare.” ~Proverbs 22:24-25
